Drag. Drop. See It: Form Design Without the Guesswork
In our previous article, we explored the UX philosophy behind the new web-based Designer Studio: keeping your work in focus and the tools you need within reach. Now, let's see what that means in practice.
One small request, one better form
Your finance team has a simple request: “When an invoice is submitted in a foreign currency, we need a place to enter the exchange rate.”
You open the Invoices workflow, switch to the Form tab, and there it is: the form itself, ready to edit. No abstract configuration screens or separate previews. Just you, your form, and the tools to improve it.
1. Drag it
In the searchable Form fields palette on the left, find Floating-point number. Grab it and drag it onto the form.
As you move, a colored guide line shows exactly where the field will land. No guessing, no trial and error.
2. Drop it
Place the field alongside the invoice details and rename it Exchange rate directly on the form.
Need to fine-tune its configuration? Select the field, and the relevant settings appear on the right. Everything stays within the same workspace, exactly where you need it.
Drag-and-drop form design in action: the guide line shows exactly where the new field will appear, and the field is renamed right on the form.
3. See it
The best part? You see the result as you work.
Want more room for descriptions? Switch the column layout from 50/50 to 30/70. Curious how the form looks on a smaller screen? Check the compact view with a single click.
You can even use Form layout on step to see how the form is arranged at different workflow stages, including approval.
And if something doesn't look right? Simply hit Undo, review your changes in History, and keep experimenting. Nothing is published until you're ready.
Less configuring. More creating.
What started as a small business request becomes a quick, visual improvement.
That's the real power of the new Designer Studio: less time navigating settings, more time building forms that work for your users.
