WEBCON BPS 2025: Fluent 2 - density setting NOT NOW
7

Dear Community,
The new Fluent 2 interface is undoubtedly a significant step forward in design and usability. However, I believe there’s room for further refinement to enhance user experience. One suggestion would be introducing a customizable density setting, similar to the “Roomy,” “Cozy,” and “Compact” options available in Outlook.

Such a feature could prove especially beneficial on devices with smaller screens, like laptops. For instance, in scenarios where a form is open with the details panel visible, reducing the spacing between workflow steps could help optimize the available screen space.

Allowing users to set their preferred density could influence multiple elements of the interface, such as:
• Spacing between form fields.
• The layout of the left and top menus.
• The arrangement within the details panel (info panel).

Additionally, this setting might also adjust font sizes in specific areas, like field group headers, the attachments section, and comments titles, ensuring a cohesive and user-friendly experience across different density preferences.

Your feedback and thoughts on this suggestion are more than welcome!

Best.

Hi Adam,

i support the requirement espacially to change the density because our application needs plenty of more space on the screen than in former versions. I posted an IMAGE with the 2 examples in the following thread. https://community.webcon.com/forum/thread/6488

From the UX perspective I'm all for it. However, there's also the development side and an associated cost/effort required. The latter is the largest obstacle, as we need to keep the whole UI consistent across all supported platforms, screen resolutions, sizes, ratios, etc.
When it comes to systemic solutions ("one button for everyone") it's most likely won't happen. However, it doesn't mean in the future you won't have more options to control the UI.
For instance, we plan to introduce dashboard layout configuration based on a grid which is way more "relaxed" way of composing dashboard compared to the current options. Additionally, we also plan to offer more freedom for forms. That's all I can say at this point :)
