Creating DEV/TEST/PROD Environments

MVP

We usually have one Prod and a Test environment installed on the customers infrastructure. Sometimes the customers do have a third pipeline where we can install the Dev environment. If not, we usually set up a single server Dev environment in our infrastructure that matches the customers version of WEBCON BPS. Also when there is limited access to the environment of the customer, it makes sense having your own Dev environment.
By having three environments we can follow more or less the best practices we use in traditional software development. In fact to follow our internal best practices completely we would have to have a fourth environment, e.g. Integration....

The type of environment you want to create you define during the install process. The step is described in chapter 3.9 of the standalone installation guide. There you see the screenshot for the "Farm configuration database creation", the type of environment is the "Database type".

There is also the option to change the type after the installation.
In the installation package you will find a folder "Migration Tools" which contains a zip-file "WebCon.BPS.ResourceKit". Unzip this and start Webcon.BPS.ResourceKit.exe.
You first need to enter some configuration parameters under the tab "Configuration", "General Settings". Then you can switch to the tab "Tools", "Change database type".
