Migrating to Webcon Standalone
0

Hi,

We are thinking about migrating from BPS on SharePoint to Standalone. We have some concerns. The current environment is Webcon 2021 on SharePoint 2013 Foundation. We are not using modern forms.
-Is there any other migration guide/description than this? https://community.webcon.com/posts/post/going-sharepointless-how-to-transform-your-environment-into-standalone/168
-If I understand correctly, all applications will have to be transferred to the modern form/bps portal?
-That also means all custom JavaScript will have to be rewritten to take that into account?
-After the upgrade, users do everything through the BPS Portal?
-We are using SharePoint calendars and news - are there any equivalent functionalities in Webcon Standalone?
-What are your experiences with migration? Any pitfalls, problems, advice...?

Thanks!

Hi Mark
We (WEBCON) have no other manual/guide. The procedure described in that article has been tested (and improved) a lot of times in a real scenario - it works for us. We do not know about any pitfalls but any comments from other WEBCONERS are welcome.

1. Yes, all applications must be transferred to WEBCON BPS Portal.
2. Yes, you have to check all Javascript when you switch from classic to modern (standard Javascripts should work, but you have to check it).
3. Users do everything through the WEBCON BPS Portal after migration. You can embed modern WEBCON BPS Portal WebParts into SharePoint pages but I am not sure it is the best way...
4. No, there are no such functionalities. WEBCON BPS Portal does not replace Sharepoint. You can try to use WEBCON BPS Dashboards to publish news but this is not the intended use of the dashboard.
5. It works, but it is a project, not a simple task. The first step is to migrate all your processes/applications to WEBCON BPS Portal on your actual installation and teach users how to use WEBCON BPS Portal. It will make the most of your time.
